Capital Pres Family of Churches
A Flexible Multisite Website for a Rapidly Growing Church Network
The Capital Pres Family of churches in northern Virginia is rapidly growing as they work to reach the Washington, D.C. area for Christ. As they prepared to launch their second campus, it was time for a new website structure that would grow with them.
Planning for the Future, Today
The first step was to think through a multi-site structure that makes sense based on how the messaging, programming, and communication overlaps at each campus.
While the church only had one satellite campus at the time, they expect to keep growing quickly. The campus-specific area of the website can be replicated as new locations are added, so that the website scales seamlessly.
We prioritized the needs of visitors throughout the design process, creating a navigation scheme that makes it easy to find the right campus and get service details in a matter of seconds. Areas of the site that are more likely to be accessed by existing members and attenders are tucked into the secondary navigation bar or the slide-out panel. This reduces visual clutter for first and second-time visitors, but still keeps tools like the event calendar and member log-in easy to find for “insiders.”
Flexible Design & Content Management for Changing Needs
The Capital Pres Family is very involved in the community, and has many ways for members and guests to get involved through diverse ministries and serving opportunities.
We developed a system for organizing their 40+ ministries and numerous volunteer positions so that users could quickly find what they are looking for.
A flexible content management system within WordPress and our page builder tool gives the church’s communications team a wide variety of mobile-friendly layout options that coordinate with their brand look and feel.

Community Groups Finder
We integrated the site with the site with the church’s ChMS, Church Community Builder, to streamline workflows. A small group finder tool maps and filters groups in the area.
Serving & Volunteer Opportunities
The communications team can enter serving opportunities categorized by type to encourage volunteer participation. Urgent needs can be highlighted and featured at the top of the list.
Sermon Library
An archive of sermons, filterable by speaker, book of the Bible, and sermon series, makes it easy to catch-up on messages.
Event Calendar
The communications team can feature church-wide and special events, and list all upcoming events, categorized by ministry area.
Sermon Series Graphics & Campaign Design
McLean Presbyterian doesn’t shy away from pushing the envelope with their creative sermon series ideas and graphics. They provide the creative direction, and we make their vision come to life with design and layout. We also assist with annual campaigns, like their Thanksgiving offering, creating promotional posters and mailers.
