International Art Museum

Connecting Local and Global Audiences to International Art

We partnered with the International Art Museum of America (IAMA) to design and develop a website that matches the scale and scope of its international artwork collection. With visitors and artists from around the world, IAMA needed a site that could support global engagement, highlight its vibrant local presence in San Francisco, and offer practical tools for both museum staff and diverse audiences. The result is a multilingual, content-rich platform built to serve art lovers, event attendees, facility renters, and community partners.

A Strategic Framework for a Global Audience

At the start of the project, we worked closely with the IAMA team to define clear goals: make the museum’s offerings more discoverable, support membership and rental growth, and better reflect its role as a vibrant cultural hub in the Bay Area.

Through our strategic planning process, we identified their core audiences, including local and international art lovers, tourists, students, members, and event space renters, and mapped distinct user journeys for each group.

The new site architecture organizes a large volume of content around these needs, with dedicated pathways for exhibition visitors, renters seeking venue details, and partners interested in collaboration. The site is now easier to navigate and manage, and more effective in turning interest into engagement.

Elegant Design Rooted in an Existing Brand

IAMA came to us with an existing color palette that included bold accent colors. These accent tones might seem disharmonious in a traditional palette, but when paired intentionally, create a distinctive, expressive energy. On the website, we anchored the design with the dark charcoal, rich teal and plenty of white space, giving depth and balance. The brighter accent colors stand out against the darker backdrops and lighter color washes. The overall effect reflects IAMA’s identity as both an established international institution and a contemporary cultural presence.

We selected a sophisticated typography pairing of a sans-serif and serif font from the same family to blend modernity with classic refinement. It was essential that we use a font family with broad character set support, allowing for multilingual content.
