Engaging the Community through Local History

Historic Locust Grove, significant heritage site and historic home in Louisville, Kentucky, was ready to update the look and feel of their website and improve the ease of use for both their admin and visitors. We used their brand style guide, inspired by the historic home and surrounding natural environment, to reinvigorate the online experience and engage their community. We restructured the navigation to be more intuitive for all audiences, and featured events and visitor info to drive attendance.

Blending Historical Content with Modern Web Design

The team at Locust Grove wanted to use a “maximalism aesthetic” for the design, infusing elements inspired by the natural landscape, the historic home, and the stories of the site. A harmonious, earthy color palette, subtle textures, and professional photography combine to represent the rich, complex history of the landmark. Ensuring the design remained mobile-friendly and accessible was a top priority.

Streamlined Navigation for Diverse Audiences

We built a site map to serve diverse audiences, including visitors of all backgrounds, educators, researchers, and event planners. Relevant calls to action throughout guide users to get involved by visiting, becoming a member, donating, volunteering, and more.
