Episcopal Diocese of New York

Telling the Story of a Diocese in Action

The Episcopal Diocese of New York (EDNY) came to us with a clear goal: tell a fresh, dynamic story of an outward‑facing, on-the-ground Diocese that is active seven days a week and making a real impact in people’s lives. Through a close collaboration with their communications team, we created a website that is not only easier to maintain but more powerful in its ability to tell stories, share resources, and foster connection across their diverse audiences.

Rooted in the Diocese’s 5-Year Mission Priorities, the new site is designed to serve internal audiences with a robust resource library, event calendar, and news feed, while simultaneously drawing in new visitors with a visual narrative that celebrates local communities and life in the Diocese. From rural chaplaincies to Upper West Side congregations, the new site reflects the full breadth and depth of EDNY’s people, ministries, and purpose.

Built on Strategy, Designed for Impact

We led an in-depth strategy phase to ensure the website would support the Diocese’s goals and the needs of its multiple audience groups. We mapped out the site’s audiences, ranging from clergy and lay leaders to newcomers, job seekers, and press, and worked closely with the EDNY team to plan a navigation and information architecture that could serve them all. Through wireframes, site maps, and content planning, we created a structure that brings clarity to a large, multifaceted organization. People can find what they need, and the Diocese can tell a more cohesive, compelling story of the mission and ministry.

A Clearer Identity, a Stronger Story, and a Smarter System

A Refined Logo and More Accessible Design

We updated the Diocese’s existing logo by refining the typography for improved readability and cleaner visual alignment. The refreshed design emphasizes “New York” to strengthen recognition and bring focus to what makes the diocese distinct. We also provided updated logo files in various formats for the EDNY team to apply consistently across communications and materials.

This focus on clarity and usability extended to the full site design, where we prioritized clean layouts, strong hierarchy, and accessible color choices. The result is a visual system that’s not only welcoming and modern but also easy to navigate for users of all abilities.

From Top-Down to Ground-Up

In line with the Diocese’s guiding vision, the site elevates the stories of local parishes, chaplaincies, and schools. Rather than presenting the Diocese as a distant authority, the new site positions it as a support system that equips communities with tools, training, funding, and encouragement.

We embedded the Episcopal Asset Map directly into the site, offering visitors an interactive and up-to-date way to explore congregations across all ten counties.

The site also shines a spotlight on the many Diocesan programs and ministries that serve both the church and the wider community. From leadership development to social justice initiatives, visitors can discover meaningful ways to get involved, deepen their faith, and participate in the ongoing work of renewal and healing across the region.

Simplified Content Management

With program info, news, events, and resources constantly evolving, the Diocese needed a website that multiple team members could update quickly and confidently. We addressed that with our custom PageBuilderLS content management tool, which allows staff to readily add and edit content and resources. The new system is flexible, intuitive, and built to support a collaborative workflow, so the site can stay current without relying on outside help.
