The Capital Pres Family of churches in northern Virginia is rapidly growing as they work to reach the Washington, D.C. area for Christ. As they prepared to launch their second campus, it was time for a new website structure that would grow with them.

Planning for the Future, Today

The first step was to think through a multi-site structure that makes sense based on how the messaging, programming, and communication overlaps at each campus.

While this is the first satellite campus for the Capital Pres Family, they expect to keep growing quickly. The campus-specific area of the website can be replicated as new locations are added, so that the website scales seamlessly.

Designing for Visitors and Members

We prioritized the needs of visitors throughout the design process, creating a navigation scheme that makes it easy to find the right campus and get service details in a matter of seconds.

Areas of the site that are more likely to be accessed by existing  members and attenders are tucked into the secondary navigation bar or the slide-out panel. This reduces visual clutter for first and second-time visitors, but still keeps tools like the event calendar and member log-in easy to find for “insiders.”

Flexible Design for Changing Needs

The Capital Pres Family is very involved in the community, and has many ways for members and guests to get involved through diverse ministries and serving opportunities. We brainstormed several solutions for organizing their 40+ ministries and numerous volunteer positions so that users could quickly find what they are looking for.
